Senyo Hosi praises Sam George for transparent cybersecurity bill process

A prominent civic advocate has praised Communications Minister Sam George for releasing the proposed Cyber Security Amendment Bill publicly and inviting citizen input before parliamentary consideration. Senyo Hosi, who leads the One Ghana Movement, described the minister's approach as a significant departure from typical government practice during remarks broadcast on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The minister distributed the draft legislation through open channels and provided QR codes enabling direct public feedback. Hosi questioned when such a transparent consultation last occurred with pending legislation, calling the initiative a meaningful advancement in how officials engage citizens during policy development. He emphasized that disagreement with George's political positions should not diminish recognition of the procedural improvements, noting the process reflects constitutional requirements for transparency and accountability in governance.

The legislation has sparked debate across Ghana's political spectrum. Some lawmakers, such as Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, representing Ofoase-Ayirebi, have raised concerns about potential restrictions on expression. Others view the consultation period as evidence of more participatory democracy. Hosi contrasted the public release with past instances where draft policies circulated through unofficial leaks to advocacy organizations before formal announcement.
