Solomon Owusu Criticizes Minority for Condemning BoG Staff Dismissals

A Movement for Change leader attacked Parliament opposition members for defending fired bank workers. Solomon Owusu said the Minority group acts like they care about job losses. He argued that their political party caused worse problems when they controlled government. The critic spoke during a television program on Wednesday morning. Owusu used to belong to the New Patriotic Party before joining his current group.

Bank of Ghana officials terminated about 100 employees after reviewing their work performance. The central bank completed evaluations of staff members hired since December 7, 2024. Management decided these workers failed to meet job requirements during their trial period. Bank leaders announced the dismissals on June 19 following the assessment process. The terminated employees had not proven themselves capable during probation.

Opposition lawmakers held a news conference to protest the bank firings on Tuesday. They claimed the dismissals broke Ghana's worker protection rules. Minority members said the action violated the rights of affected employees. The politicians described the bank's decision as unfair to ordinary workers. They demanded immediate action to reverse the terminations.

Owusu reminded people that the National Democratic Congress caused massive job losses during their previous administration. More than 6,000 workers lost employment under NDC leadership across various sectors. GN Bank alone eliminated over 3,000 positions when the ruling party made policy changes. The former NPP member said opposition critics have no right to complain about current firings. He believes their past actions prove they care little about protecting jobs.
