Sophie Devine eyes World Cup glory, tags India and Aussies as threats

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine has named Australia, India, and Sri Lanka as the toughest competitors for the upcoming Women's ODI World Cup beginning September 30. The defending T20 World Cup champions seek their first 50-over title since claiming victory in 2000. Devine announced her retirement from ODI cricket following this tournament. Australia presents the biggest challenge as defending champions, while India benefits from home advantage and strong squad depth. Sri Lanka also poses significant threats when competing on familiar territory.

The White Ferns completed extensive preparation through a two-week training camp at Chennai Super Kings Academy during August. Ten squad members joined head coach Ben Sawyer and assistant Craig McMillan for specialized conditioning work designed for subcontinental conditions. Devine expressed excitement about the team's generational transition, highlighting emerging talents Eden Carson and Izzy Gaze alongside experienced players Maddy Green and Brooke Halliday. The captain emphasized the squad's commitment to embracing local cultures while maintaining competitive focus throughout their championship pursuit.
