Tascam introduces Audio File Manager for field recordists

Tascam just released a free software app called Audio File Manager for people who record music and sound in the field or with multiple tracks. You can download it right away for Windows or Mac computers directly from the Tascam website. This handy tool lets you check your recordings fast, organize your audio files, and prepare everything for the next steps in your production work.

At its core, the program works as a smart file browser that shows you the actual sound waves of every audio file in any folder you select. You can easily zoom into these waveforms to spot problems like clipping or missing audio sections. The software includes basic editing features like cutting, copying, pasting, muting parts of recordings, and normalizing volume levels.

The app makes organizing your files much easier. You can rename many files at the same time or add specific characters to the beginning of filenames before mixing sessions. Audio File Manager connects not just to your computer storage but also to network drives and popular cloud services, including AWS Storage, Google Drive, and Dropbox.

Beyond regular stereo files, the software plays multitrack WAV recordings through its built-in mixer. It handles sampling rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz. The program supports various audio quality levels, including 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit float, and 32-bit integer files. It reads many popular audio formats, such as WAV, MP3, AIFF, AIFC, SD2, MP2, MPEG-4, and M4a files.
