The Local Government Ministry has started investigating claims that Bikita District Development Coordinator Bernard Hadzirabwi used his government car for taxi services. Ministry spokesperson Gabriel Masvora told Masvingo Mirror they want to check if Hadzirabwi really used an Isuzu single-cab truck with registration MLG 164 as a private taxi.
People say Hadzirabwi picked up eight riders near the Masvingo courts on March 31, 2025, around 7:30 a.m., when heading to Nyika Growth Point. One person sat up front, and seven climbed in back, paying between US$1 and US$3 for rides. When asked about this, Hadzirabwi wanted proof of these actions. After learning the reporter herself paid him US$3 as his final passenger at Nyika Growth Point, he refused to talk with The Mirror anymore.
A worker from Bikita Minerals reportedly paid Hadzirabwi US$6 for a ride. The official supposedly picked up and let off passengers all along his route from Masvingo to Nyika Growth Point. Masvora explained that government vehicles must follow Public Service Commission rules and carry only authorized people. The Ministry tracks vehicle movement through logbooks, expecting cars to be used only for official business purposes.
