The majority of Commercial Vehicle Operators Fail JPJ Safety Audits

Malaysian transport officials discovered most commercial vehicle companies ignore basic safety rules during recent inspections. Road Transport Department teams checked 133 businesses that operate trucks and buses across the country. Safety auditors found serious problems at 85 companies during the nationwide review. Department chief Aedy Fadly Ramli announced the troubling results after examining operator practices. The investigation started June 23 as part of enhanced safety monitoring efforts.

Truck companies made up 43 of the businesses that failed safety standards. Tour and express bus operators accounted for 42 additional failures during the audit process. Companies violated multiple safety requirements that protect drivers and passengers on Malaysian roads. Many businesses refused to hire proper safety officers or install required tracking devices. Vehicle operators also ignored rules about driver work schedules and mandatory rest periods.

Safety inspectors found companies failed to monitor driver locations through GPS systems. Business owners did not record how many hours their drivers worked each day. Rules require drivers to work no more than eight hours and take 30-minute breaks every four hours. Companies also lacked emergency action plans for accidents or breakdowns. Many vehicles displayed no complaint hotline numbers for the public to report safety concerns.

Transport officials plan to report all failing companies to licensing authorities for punishment. The Land Public Transport Agency will review each case and may suspend or cancel operating permits. Department leaders promise continued strict enforcement to improve road safety standards. Officials refuse to accept poor safety practices that endanger Malaysian travelers and other road users.
