Tokyo thriller as Ghana star Abdul Rasheed Saminu storms 100m semis

Abdul-Rasheed Saminu secured automatic advancement to the semi-finals during the men's 100m competition at the World Athletics Championships on Saturday. The 22-year-old Ghanaian athlete finished his race in Heat 7 with a time of 10.09 seconds and achieved a reaction time of 0.188 seconds. Akani Simbine from South Africa won the heat by recording 10.02 seconds, while Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya took third place at 10.12 seconds. Saminu outperformed several competitors, beating Elvis Afrifa from the Netherlands, who ran 10.15 seconds, Xinrui Deng of China at 10.23 seconds, and Emmanuel Eseme from Cameroon with 10.24 seconds. Abdul Hakim Sani Brown from Japan placed seventh with 10.37 seconds, and Saif Al RamMahi of Iraq finished eighth at 10.58 seconds.

Ghana maintains representation in the men's 100m event after Benjamin Azamati failed to advance from Heat 5 earlier that day. Azamati finished sixth and missed qualification for the next round. Saminu carries Ghana's hopes forward in the sprint competition. The athlete demonstrated strong form during his qualifying performance. His advancement keeps the West African nation competitive in the championship sprint events.
