Batsirai Matiza faces big legal trouble after trustees from Green Rebirth Trust took him to court. The trustees say he tried to steal their million-dollar tree project. They had earlier made him an ambassador for their organization. Batsirai happens to be the son of Joel Biggie Matiza, who died some time ago.
The trust went straight to the High Court, asking for protection. They need help keeping control of their tree nursery at Chemapango Secondary School in Murewa district. Nadia Vingai Mabvirakure spoke for the trust when filing papers against Batsirai, Tichabaiwa Gwadu, and Familia Muvhunwa. The trust wants permission to keep using and making money from the trees they planted.
Court papers tell us that Mabvirakure and five others started the Green Rebirth Jiri ra Mambo project back in February 2022. They wanted to help the environment and fight climate change. They officially registered Green Rebirth Trust in October 2023 with plans to restore nature, create jobs, teach about the environment, and protect plants and animals.
The trust worked hard to find money partners and build what they needed in rural areas across the country. They successfully created a large tree nursery at that school in Murewa. Last August, Batsirai offered them money and claimed he liked what they stood for. He thought helping them might make him look good to the public.
Following their normal practice of accepting help from many different people, the trust welcomed his contribution. Their tree stock had grown for seven months and reached selling age. They expected to make good money to support their mission. The entire project represents about one million dollars in value to the community and environment.
They were shocked when Gwadu and Muvhunwa showed up at the school on February 27 this year. These men took over the project and pushed the trust out completely. They gave the school principal a letter claiming they belonged to something called Matiza Trust. They said this trust had partnered with Green Rebirth and funded everything.
The three men claimed they had ended ties with Green Rebirth and were taking full control. The trust strongly denies these claims and calls them fraudulent lies. They say Batsirai was just one donor among many others who supported their work. They doubt the Matiza Trust even exists as a real organization.
Mabvirakure explained that the three men never participated in running the project beyond giving some money. She pointed out that Batsirai only started donating seven months ago. She firmly states that nobody from the trust has done anything fraudulent. Their team has worked very hard growing these trees without any help from Batsirai.
The trust worries the men will sell off all their trees and cause massive financial harm. Once those trees sell, they cannot be recovered. The exact amount of money they stand to lose would be nearly impossible to calculate correctly. They desperately need the court to step in quickly before everything they built disappears.
