Uganda Accuses German Envoy of Meddling as Election Tensions Rise

Uganda security forces accused German Ambassador Matthias Schauer of secret activities against the government. Colonel Chris Magezi said the diplomat broke international rules by holding illegal meetings across the country. Officials claim Schauer violated the Vienna Diplomatic Convention, which controls how countries treat each other. The accusations come before Uganda holds elections next year in 2026. Military leaders worry about foreign interference in local politics.

Ambassador Schauer complained to General Salim Saleh about threatening social media posts from President Museveni's son. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba wrote on Twitter that he could expel any ambassador he dislikes. The president's son also criticized European parliament members who visited opposition leader Bobi Wine. These messages worried European diplomats working in Kampala. Officials believe tensions between Uganda and Western countries are getting worse.

Security agencies claim foreign embassies fund groups that damage power lines and plan attacks. Vandals destroyed electricity infrastructure in Wakiso, Mukono, Kayunga, and Masaka districts across central Uganda. Police arrested many suspects connected to the National Unity Platform opposition party. Military commanders promise strong action against anyone working with foreign enemies. Leaders told young people to avoid rebel groups and join government programs instead.
