VGTrumpet dropped the VG Windscape audiovisual synth plugin

VGTrumpet has released VG Windscape, a new music tool that makes visuals react to live MIDI input. It handles both audio and screen art, with each performance shaping what appears on display. No fixed visual loop. The player controls the result through notes and breath.

Chrome handles the graphics while the instrument takes care of audio. Pitch data sets the color and spot, while breath can shift the brush. Musicians can also use expression pedals, modulation wheels, or other MIDI CC messages to control what happens.

Here's the neat part. Two takes of the same tune can give different art. The visuals respond to how each musician plays, rather than just following a set path.

There is a fair bit to mess with on the visual side. Users can paint with images from a built-in photo library or load files from a local folder. Effects range from rain and glass textures to star fields, liquid hues, text, and long brush trails.

Scene changes are part of the setup as well. Players can switch looks by pressing a note or let the app handle changes at set intervals. Each visual style can be stored for later use.

Live performers get a few handy options. The art can fill an external display or projector, while a separate window holds the controls. Since Chrome does the visual work apart from the audio engine, the graphics do not have to run inside the instrument itself.

Recording is fairly direct. One control captures the music and the moving art in a single video, which could be useful for demos, live clips, or sharing a take.

On the audio side, 13 pad and texture patches cater to slow fades and sustained tones. Pad/Scape mode can stretch both the start and fade-out of a sound to three seconds, letting a brief breath input create a longer layer.

The sound engine also has three parts, each with delay, reverb, and freeze effects. Musicians can trigger freeze with their controllers while playing.

Underneath, the software uses the VG Wind Ensemble engine. That brings familiar tools such as a Harmonizer, smooth pitch slides, keyswitch control, wind input support, and a player for backing tracks.

There is cross-support for sound libraries as well. VG Sound Collection patches work in Windscape, while its new 13 pad sets also load in VG Wind Ensemble.

No extra sampler is needed for audio. Windscape works as an independent desktop app or as a plugin on Windows and macOS. Supported formats cover VST, VST3, and AU, with DAWs such as FL Studio, Reaper, Cubase, Ableton Live, and Logic Pro in the mix.

Controller support is broad. AirMotion, TEControl, and MRTAudio breath gear are compatible, along with AKAI EWI models, Roland Aerophone units, Yamaha WX and YDS gear, Berglund NuEVI and NuRad, EMEO, Robkoo R1, Clarii Mini, Greaten AP-500 Pro, DigiBrass Tilt, Tipsy, and WARBL. Standard MIDI keyboards also work.

The one extra requirement is Google Chrome for the moving art. The audio runs on its own, giving players a way to use the instrument even when visuals are not part of the setup.
