Wike says Fubara ain't Ijaw and politics is interest

Nyesom Wike just told a large crowd of Kalabari citizens that Governor Similayi Fubara doesn't belong to the Ijaw tribe. The former Rivers State leader made these claims during a reception held for him Saturday. This statement adds fuel to earlier remarks where Wike bragged that without his backing, an Ijaw person could never have taken the governor's chair, referring directly to Fubara.

Wike pointed out that Ijaw groups make up less than half the population across Niger Delta states except Bayelsa. His comments come during a heated power struggle that has split Rivers State between these two political figures. Wike even clarified further that residents from the Opobo area, where Fubara grew up, cannot claim true Ijaw heritage.

Speaking bluntly to the Kalabari audience Saturday, Wike declared, "Let nobody deceive you that the governor is Ijaw; he is not. All of you are Ijaw; are you benefiting? Politics is interest." He urged everyone to stand against what he sees as the mistreatment of supporters, saying people should not accept being used and then discarded as normal political behavior.

He demanded an end to these practices and called for a new approach to politics in the region. The statements highlight growing tensions between the former governor and his successor as their public disagreements continue to divide local communities across Rivers State.
