Yunus backs stronger Bangladesh, US trade in Dhaka

Bangladesh's interim leader Muhammad Yunus met with US trade officials on Monday in Dhaka. Assistant Trade Representative Brendan Lynch discussed expanding economic ties between the two nations. The United States recently cut tariff rates on Bangladeshi exports from thirty-five to twenty percent. Yunus praised this policy change as beneficial for Bangladesh's economy. Both sides explored ways to reduce their trade imbalance through increased cooperation.

The nations discussed expanding agricultural imports from American suppliers to Bangladesh. Energy cooperation talks addressed liquefied petroleum gas purchases and civil aircraft acquisitions. Lynch commended Bangladesh's negotiating approach since discussions began in February this year. Bangladesh expressed readiness to improve conditions for foreign direct investment from America. The government expects increased investment flows in the health and education sectors from US sources.
