Malaysia will convert the abandoned Putrajaya Monorail bridge into a recreational pathway for pedestrians and cyclists by January 2026. Federal Territories Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced the transformation during the Putrajaya Carnival 2025. The government has designated RM15 million for the upgrade project after two decades of public requests. Officials expect the revamped structure to attract tourists and benefit the local economy.
The 200-meter bridge will accommodate bicycles exclusively due to original load capacity limitations designed for monorail systems. Construction teams have completed half the renovation work with December as the target finish date. Workers must install bridge connections, ramps and final details before the January opening.
