Zanu PF activists invade school land, block the road

About 20 people claiming ties to ZANU PF and war veteran groups occupied land belonging to Rainham Primary School in Zvimba East constituency and blocked road access. The primary school serves roughly 700 pupils with 25 teachers, while neighboring Rainham Secondary School educates 350 students with 10 instructors. Villager Simba Gweshe accused Ward 10 councilor Tafadzwa Kambarami of backing the settlers despite the Zvimba Rural District Council declaring them illegal occupants.

The squatters denied teachers access to farmhouse accommodation, forcing educators into garages and animal shelters. Gweshe reported the occupation to the police, the education ministry, and district officials without results. Council chief executive Enias Chidhakwa confirmed authorities issued eviction notices that settlers ignored after moving from the Nehanda area following the sale of the Sunside plots they received.

Kambarami defended the occupants, who had lived there for 15 years, saying the Constitution guarantees the right to shelter. The councilor requested council sell affordable plots to residents through proper channels. He rejected evictions and urged officials to provide stands at reasonable rates, citing presidential directives against leaving citizens behind.
