ZeniMax Online's Project Blackbird Canceled as Studio Founder Departs and Staff Laid Off

Microsoft pulled the plug on a massive online game after seven years of work. ZeniMax Online Studios watched their dream project called Project Blackbird disappear overnight. Studio founder Matt Firor walked away from the company he helped build. Hundreds of game developers lost their jobs when executives made the brutal decision. The cancellation shocked everyone who poured their hearts into the ambitious project.

Alex Tardif spent more than ten years creating graphics for the gaming company. He watched his team build an amazing new game engine from scratch. The veteran programmer said the project was moving forward beautifully. His graphics team had solved major technical problems and felt proud of their work. Tardif praised his coworkers as some of the most talented people around.

The cancelled game had been cooking for seven long years without much to show outsiders. Microsoft executives probably decided they had wasted enough money on the slow-moving project. The tech giant chose to cut losses rather than keep funding the expensive experiment. Game industry watchers felt disappointed about losing another potential blockbuster online game. Western developers rarely make these kinds of massive multiplayer games anymore.
