Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Portugal President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa attended the event. Mozambique President Daniel Chapo delivered his speech focusing on economic independence goals for his country. He promised to reduce hunger and build stronger government institutions. The ceremony honored founding President Samora Machel who declared independence from Portugal at the same location.
