Mhlanga defends defection to Zanu-PF, prioritizes national progress
Albert Mhlanga, who used to rep Pumula for the opposition MDC, joined Zanu-PF and told everyone he is not a sellout because President Mnangagwa is actually doing the stuff the opposition wanted all along. The former Bulawayo deputy mayor switched parties with another ex-legislator named Dingilizwe Tshuma, and he pointed out that inflation dropped from some insane 89.7 sextillion percent back in 2008 to around 19 percent by late 2025. Mhlanga said his old crew is calling him a traitor, but he thinks people need to check the bigger picture instead of getting mad about loyalty. His job with the ruling party involves pulling more members into Zanu-PF around Pumula and Bulawayo while highlighting infrastructure projects. He claims the move...
Karate coach urges more competition after youth win bronze
Zimbabwe's karate squad grabbed three bronze medals at the African Youth Games in Angola, and coach Winston Nyanhete said the kids are heading the right way but need way more competition to keep leveling up. Bradley Kadzombe snagged bronze in the boys kumite division over 76kg, while Rumbidzai Makamache scored third place in individual kata and another team bronze with Makanaka Mulopa and Georgina Mhondera. Nyanhete was pumped for Kadzombe after the fighter missed the podium at the regional games earlier this year. The coach warned that funding issues are killing their chances of getting enough international exposure. Zimbabwe is hosting a World Karate Federation Youth Camp in Harare next March with Olympic champions running the...
Bulawayo man jailed over US$400 maintenance arrears
A Bulawayo dude from Emakhandeni got six months in jail after racking up four hundred bucks in unpaid child support, though half the sentence got suspended if he pays what he owes and keeps his nose clean. Melvin Khumalo admitted he ghosted the court-ordered hundred dollars monthly that was supposed to go toward his kid after his ex-wife, Martha Banda, filed the paperwork back in the summer. The magistrate gave him three months off for good behavior over the next three years, and another three months vanish if he settles the debt. Cops grabbed him after someone reported that he had never sent a single payment since the court told him to start coughing up cash.
Tourism sector preps for festive boom, power back-up a must
Zimbabwe's hotel people are telling everyone in the business to get their backup power sorted because tourists are about to flood the country for the holidays. Emmah Kativu, who runs the Hospitality Association and works at Coghlan Hospitality Group, said bookings look solid, and most visitors will be Zimbabweans, either living locally or flying back from overseas. She mentioned that resorts and out-of-town spots need festive menus and entertainment ready, while making sure water, internet, and safety measures are locked down. The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority kicked off a campaign at Lake Harvest Sports Club in Kariba to push domestic travel, and Forbes just called the country the best place to visit next year. Sithabile Bhebhe from the...
Bulawayo man jailed for stealing TV, avoids full term
A guy from Gwabalanda in Bulawayo got slapped with nine months behind bars after admitting he climbed through somebody's window and walked off with their TV. Prince Sibanda, who is 21, pleaded guilty to breaking into Mbonisi Makore's place in Magwegwe Extension and swiping a 72-inch Hisense set worth three hundred bucks. The magistrate handed down 15 months total, but six of those got suspended under conditions that Sibanda stays clean for three years and pays back the full amount. Cops tracked him down after the heist, but nobody ever found the television. He's serving the rest of the sentence without any of it getting cut.
Govt modernizes key hospitals, nurses' residences shine
Zimbabwe's health minister says the government finished upgrading student nurse housing at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, and the place went from holding 40 people to fitting 353 after getting new plumbing, solar panels, and a renovated pool. Douglas Mombeshora told reporters that Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Hospital should reopen by late January with fresh beds and equipment, while Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo started its first round of fixes back in October. The nurse dorms at Parirenyatwa got eight boreholes, a massive water tank, and a 120-kilowatt solar setup that keeps everything running off-grid. Mbuya Nehanda had to shut down completely, so maternity cases got moved to the main hospital while contractors worked on the...
Consumer council warns of holiday scams, beware of hidden traps
Zimbabwe's consumer watchdog is telling shoppers to watch their backs this holiday season because sketchy contracts are everywhere. The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe says businesses are pushing agreements loaded with hidden fees, surprise price changes, and clauses that basically let companies do whatever they want without asking. Rosemary Mpofu, who runs the CCZ, pointed out that people have extra cash from bonuses right now, and shady retailers know it. She warned that fake bargains are flooding the market, with stores jacking up prices, selling knockoffs, and pushing underweight products on anyone not paying attention. The council became an official arbitration body under some recent regulations, so it can actually help resolve...
Meikles sees signs of recovery despite challenging period
Meikles Limited chairman Fayaz King said the company got beat up during six months of weak consumer spending and sky-high operational expenses, but their spread across different business sectors is setting them up for a comeback by year's end. The hospitality wing basically carried the whole operation after tourism revenue nearly doubled in inflation-adjusted figures, and Forbes' naming Zimbabwe the top global destination for visits gave the board enough confidence to cancel their earlier plan to dump hotel assets. TM Pick n Pay supermarkets pulled in about 188 million dollars, but still posted a loss because gross margins shrank while operating costs ballooned from tight monetary policy, killing demand. The property segment finished...
Lee Mckrazy sets Gwanda ablaze with fiery Amapiano set
Lee Mckrazy from South Africa headlined a massive party in Gwanda that brought out Urban Grooves artist Quonfuzed plus Zimdancehall acts Hulengende and Malloti for a festival season kickoff. The Amapiano star delivered a 45-minute performance that had everyone vibing to tracks like Amabhoza and Kokotela before wrapping things up around dawn. Quonfuzed warmed up the crowd after midnight with hits like Uchachema and threw in some Souljah Love tributes, while Hulengende and Malloti went crazy with Fadza Madzimai getting four encores from fans who would not let them leave the stage. DJ Keitho kept spinning records until sunrise after the main act finished his set, and the whole event went off without any drama or incidents.
