Neumann RIME 1.5 update drops, immersive mixing goes deeper
Neumann just pushed out version 1.5 of their RIME plugin, and it's loaded with upgrades for anyone running their NDH 20 or NDH 30 cans. The update brings better bass response across all speakers, sharper transients for mixing decisions, and 3DOF head tracking that follows your noggin movements. They also tossed in support for 5.1 and 7.1.2 formats, plus expanded the ambience controls for more room vibe tweaking. Other additions include peak-aligned output to keep levels below 0 dBFS, loudness-matched bypass for comparing binaural and downmixed signals, and quick solo or mute buttons for horizontal and height channels. Mac users can also run RIME as a standalone app outside their DAW. The plugin works on Windows 10 and up or macOS 10.15...
Synth V debuts fresh voices, four new singers light up tracks
Dreamtonics just dropped four new AI voices for Synthesizer V Studio 2 Pro, and they're all multi-language beasts. Etta and Danny handle English as their main thing, while Yun Hua and Lang Chuan are Chinese-focused. Each voice packs multiple vocal modes for different vibes, and they all support at least five languages, like Japanese, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Etta brings soprano energy for pop and EDM with modes like Powerful and Whispery, and Danny does the warm tenor thing for soul and R&B. The Chinese voices lean classical with Bel Canto styling. Black Friday pricing has them at $63 instead of the usual $79, and they work on Windows 10 and macOS 10.13 or newer as plugins.
Mnangagwa tightens grip, new army chief tips power balance
Zimbabwe just shuffled its top military brass, and it looks like President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is stacking the deck for his 2030 power play. Lieutenant General Emmanuel Matatu got bumped up to General and took over as Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander after Philip Valerio Sibanda retired. Major General Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi also got promoted to Lieutenant General and is heading the Zimbabwe National Army. Both these guys are tight with Mnangagwa, which makes sense because he already axed Lieutenant General Anseleem Sanyatwe earlier for being too cozy with Vice President Constantino Chiwenga. The whole reshuffle weakens Chiwenga's shot at the presidency while Mnangagwa tries to stick around past his term limit. Political...
Goat tender scam drags on, duo’s $7.7m sentence delayed again
Two Zanu-PF guys convicted of a massive $7.7 million scam just got their sentencing pushed back because prosecutors need more time to get a victim impact statement ready. Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu have been sitting in jail since their arrest, and their lawyers tried to delay things even more by saying they needed the written judgment before they could prepare their defense submissions. The judge shut that down and told them to just watch the court proceedings on YouTube if they wanted to review what happened. The whole mess started when these two faked tax documents and compliance certificates for a company that didn't even exist, then scored a government contract to supply half a million goats. The fake company called Blackdeck...
Term extension bid fizzles, Mnangagwa challenge called premature
Speaker Jacob Mudenda basically told two guys trying to block Zanu-PF's 2030 extension plan to sit down because they jumped the gun. Moreprecision Muzadzi and Pardon Gambakwe filed a case asking courts to stop any constitutional changes that would let President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa stay past 2028, but Mudenda called their application premature and speculative. He pointed out that no actual bill has hit Cabinet, gotten published, or made it to Parliament yet, and courts don't rule on hypothetical what-ifs. The challenge came after Zanu-PF passed resolutions at recent conferences pushing to extend the presidential term. Meanwhile, activist Mbuso Fuzwayo and pressure group Ibhetshu LikaZulu also filed their own separate case...
Cashier pockets $13k haul, farm job lands him behind bars
A cashier at Farm and City Centre in Zvishavane got hit with three years behind bars after he pocketed over $13,000 that he was supposed to deposit into company bank accounts. The 21-year-old guy, Danda Tinashe Tinotenda, was collecting cash from till operators and just kept it instead of making the deposits. His bosses caught on when the bank balances looked completely wrong. Police investigations confirmed he had stolen $13,422, and the court gave him 36 months total. Nine months got suspended if he behaves, and another nine months comes off if he pays back the full amount by the end of November. That leaves him with 18 months of actual jail time to serve. Prosecutors are telling businesses they need better internal controls because...
Prophet’s snake act drains wallets, spiritual visit turns pricey
A 61-year-old woman from Bulawayo got completely scammed out of $20,700 and three vehicles by a self-proclaimed prophet who weaponized fake snake removals and spirit warnings. Innocentia Sekani fell victim to Madzibaba Lenny after her daughter visited him for spiritual help, and things spiraled from there. The prophet showed up at her house, claiming to pull live snakes from wardrobes and bedrooms, then immediately demanded $3,000 or else bad things would happen. The scheme kept escalating with Lenny forcing her to sell a Toyota Hilux for $10,000 and hand over the cash because it was supposedly contaminated by evil spirits. He later made her sell a Mazda Demio for $2,200 and tow a Toyota Aqua to his location. The con included bizarre...
Quebec tunes out quotas, listeners demand freedom to stream
Quebec wants streaming platforms to meet French-language music quotas, but a poll shows most people there hate the idea. The survey found that 66% of residents oppose government interference in what music shows up on their streams, and that number jumps to 75% among younger listeners. Bill 109 would force platforms to feature a set amount of French content, but streaming companies argue this would actually hurt Quebec artists by making users less engaged and reducing revenue. The streaming industry says the plan is technically messy because music metadata doesn't track language or nationality at scale. They're already fighting a separate federal law that forces them to hand over 5% of Canadian revenue to support local content, and...
Myanmar and Belarus universities team up, academic ties go high-tech
Myanmar universities linked up with Belarusian schools at Yangon University's main hall to hash out academic partnerships. Rectors from Yangon University, Mandalay University, and Mandalay University of Foreign Languages met with leaders from Belarusian State University and Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics to swap intros about their programs. The whole thing was wrapped with Yangon University and BSUIR putting pen to paper on an educational cooperation agreement, and the two schools traded some commemorative gifts. Mandalay's foreign language university also got in on the talks about future collaboration between Myanmar and Belarus on student exchanges and academic programs.
