Uganda’s constitution, called flawed at birth, experts fault missed consensus
Scholars who literally worked on Uganda's constitution are calling the whole thing cursed from day one because the process was basically rigged. Mwambutsya Ndebesa coordinated researchers for the Constituent Assembly and told everyone at Makerere that the thing got amended 119 times in just 10 years, compared to America managing only 27 tweaks across two centuries. Multiparty supporters got frozen out while Movement people ran wild, and delegates were already eyeballing the next election instead of doing serious work. Political parties got banned from participating, but Museveni still declared victory over multiparty fans when it wrapped up. The draft never went back to the citizens for final approval, even though consultations started...
Uganda’s diabetes crisis grows, lifestyle habits under fire
Doctors at Aga Khan are basically screaming that Uganda's diabetes problem is spiraling because everyone keeps crushing junk food and skipping the gym. The hospital said lifestyle garbage like obesity and ultra-processed snacks combined with booze and zero exercise is pushing cases higher, while most people do not even know they have it until things get bad. The country apparently has over 700k adults dealing with diabetes and the government plus families are dropping around 2.2 trillion shillings annually just managing Type 2 cases. Health officials dropped new treatment guidelines through the ministry and diabetes association to fix the mess, while warning that 89 percent of patients were not getting diagnosed or treated early...
UNSA snubs youth group ties, student voice stays clear
Uganda's student association just told random youth groups to back off after some outfit called Sauti ya Vijana tried claiming they run things. Wilson Mugazhu and his crew held a presser saying UNSA answers to students only and warned people against getting bamboozled by wannabe pressure groups trying to piggyback their influence for political clout or recruitment schemes. The leadership made it super clear they are staying out of partisan drama and keeping their focus strictly on education policy and student welfare stuff. They work with legit bodies like the National Youth Council but that's about it for outside collaboration. UNSA is prepping for their annual general meeting at Seeta University, where around 1,500 delegates will...
Uganda calls for tighter EAC air links, airport upgrades take flight
Uganda's aviation boss just wrapped up a regional meeting at Speke Resort, where she basically flexed about how the country crushed its latest safety audit and told neighbors they need to work together on making air travel less of a hassle. Olive Birungi Lumonya dropped stats showing Entebbe Airport moved over 1.1 million international passengers through the first half of the year, which is up from last year, and said inspectors came through to check things out before the session. The government is dumping cash into upgrades that will bump terminal capacity from 2 million people annually to 3.5 million, plus building a massive cargo center and fixing runways. They are also constructing a new airport in Hoima to handle oil and gas...
NUP condemns Kayunga shooting, campaign tensions flare on the trail
NUP is saying cops shot some guy in both legs while he was waving at Bobi Wine's motorcade rolling through Kayunga District, which just adds to the whole mess between opposition candidates and security forces during campaign season. Joel Ssenyonyi dropped footage showing supporters hauling the injured person away from the roadside and called the situation absolutely unhinged. Kyagulanyi blamed officers for firing live rounds and lobbing tear gas at his convoy, saying they hurt an innocent civilian whose only mistake was backing their campaign. Police have not dropped any statement yet, and nobody knows who the victim is or how bad the injuries are. Security forces keep insisting they only bust out crowd control tactics when rallies...
Kyagulanyi blasts poll bias, tension grows as campaigns heat up
Bobi Wine is claiming the election commission and cops are basically rigging things against him while heading out to campaign stops in Kayunga, saying police have been tear-gassing his people and breaking up rallies without any real reason. He went after the EC chairman for staying quiet about alleged violations and told him to quit if he cannot run a fair vote, then dropped allegations about Museveni potentially planning a curfew before polls open to mess with the results. The government side is pushing back hard and saying his crew keeps blocking roads with their convoys, attacking officers, and trashing police vehicles while ignoring agreed routes. Authorities maintain their crackdowns are about keeping order and public safety, not...
Uganda Cubs rout Djibouti 6–0, semifinals set for showdown
Uganda's U17 squad absolutely demolished Djibouti 6-0 and punched their ticket to the semis after wrapping up group play with nine points and a massive goal differential. The Cubs banged in 20 goals across four matches while only letting two slip past them, which put them through as runners-up behind Tanzania. Arnold Kayemba came off the bench and bagged two goals while five other players got on the scoresheet. The team locked up qualification earlier when Sudan beat Burundi, which meant Uganda's plus-12 goal difference was way better than Sudan's minus-12, even though both squads had the same points. Coach Laryea Kingston admitted his boys started slow against Djibouti and said the opposition tried making things frustrating, but...
She Cranes crush Namibia in opener, cold no match for hot streak
Uganda's netball squad kicked off their Celtic Cup run with a blowout against Namibia at the Emirates Arena, winning by 27 goals after absolutely dominating the second half. The She Cranes kept things tight early, but then flipped the switch and built a double-digit cushion by halftime before completely running away with it after the break. Coach Rashid Mubiru said his players are still adjusting to the freezing weather and mentioned he wants to switch up lineups because Ireland is going to be way harder. The team has matches coming up against Northern Ireland, Scotland, Zimbabwe, and Wales over the next few days as the tournament continues.
Doctors Without Borders halts Darfur care, deadly violence sidelines aid
Doctors Without Borders just pulled out of a hospital in Darfur after RSF troops straight up executed one of their workers outside the facility and wounded four others. The group is refusing to send people back until the paramilitary goons promise they can actually do their jobs without getting shot. This is the second time the hospital got shut down this year. Back in August, someone lobbed a grenade inside the building and killed a person, which made everyone bounce for a couple of weeks. The timing is absolutely terrible because there's a massive measles outbreak ripping through malnourished kids, with weekly cases jumping from three patients to over 60. The aid org is still supplying medicine and personnel support while trying to...
