Uganda Cubs rout Djibouti 6–0, semifinals set for showdown

Uganda's U17 squad absolutely demolished Djibouti 6-0 and punched their ticket to the semis after wrapping up group play with nine points and a massive goal differential. The Cubs banged in 20 goals across four matches while only letting two slip past them, which put them through as runners-up behind Tanzania. Arnold Kayemba came off the bench and bagged two goals while five other players got on the scoresheet.

The team locked up qualification earlier when Sudan beat Burundi, which meant Uganda's plus-12 goal difference was way better than Sudan's minus-12, even though both squads had the same points. Coach Laryea Kingston admitted his boys started slow against Djibouti and said the opposition tried making things frustrating, but eventually patience paid off and the floodgates opened.

The Cubs are facing hosts Ethiopia in the knockout round after they topped their group, and Kingston said he already studied video on everyone and knows where Uganda can do damage. He wants to see a packed stadium for what should be a pretty hype atmosphere.
