GPU and RAM prices are rising fast; is now your last shot
MAINGEAR boss Wallace Santos is telling people to buy their gaming gear right away because prices are about to get way worse. DRAM shortages keep getting nastier thanks to AI companies hoarding everything, and that means GPUs and RAM are going to cost a bunch more pretty soon. Santos says Black Friday deals happening right this second are probably the last chance to grab components before everything jumps in price. System builders have been stockpiling inventory to shield customers from the chaos, but those reserves will only last a couple of months before lead times stretch out and stuff starts going out of stock. Consumer RAM already blew past the thousand-dollar mark for some kits, and analysts think the shortage could drag on...
AOC unveils mini LED monitor, who needs OLED now
AOC dropped two gaming monitors that actually seem pretty solid for once. The U27G4XM runs mini LED tech with 1152 dimming zones and hits HDR 1000 certification with 1200 nits peak brightness. You can swap between 4K at 160Hz or drop down to 1080p for 320Hz, depending on what you need. The color coverage looks decent, with basically full DCI-P3 and way over standard sRGB ranges. For broke competitive players, the 25G4KUR pushes 420Hz at 1080p on a fast IPS panel with 1ms response times. It only does HDR400 but costs like 210 quid versus 400 for the mini LED version. The mini LED model ships next month, while the budget screen is available right away. Both support variable refresh rate sync to stop screen tearing.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still hiring, is this game real
Ubisoft just posted a job listing for a technical sound designer to work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 at their Montpellier studio. The person they hire will handle audio integration and make sure everything from voice acting to vehicle sounds actually functions properly under the audio director. The fact that they're still hiring basic technical roles after nearly two decades of development is pretty rough. The project got teased way back in 2008 and has been through absolute hell since then. Series creator Michel Ancel bounced in 2020 and quit gaming entirely. Managing director Guillame Carmona left in 2023, and creative director Emile Morel passed away that same year. Despite all that chaos, Ubisoft hasn't killed the project yet. They...
iPad mini 8 tipped for OLED leap, but what’s the catch
Apple might drop the iPad mini 8 sometime between late 2026 and the end of that year. The big deal is that this becomes their first budget tablet getting OLED tech, which is a pretty massive shift for how they usually handle their cheaper products. Word is the screen bumps up to 8.5 inches from the current 8.3, and they're stuffing the A19 Pro chip inside instead of the A17 Pro that's in the iPad mini 7 right now. That processor apparently destroys the older chips in gaming performance and runs way more efficiently. Apple's keeping costs down by using a cheaper LTPS OLED panel rather than the fancier LTPO version that their premium iPads get. The wildest part is that they might keep the price around $499 for a 256GB base model...
RX 9070 XT outpaces RTX 50 sales, but not everywhere
AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT moved almost 925 cards at one German shop while the entire RTX 50 lineup combined barely hit 920 units. The flagship RDNA 4 card crushed the RTX 5070 Ti, which couldn't even crack 400 sales. The RX 9060 XT also did solid numbers with 515 units sold. Thing is, this trend doesn't hold everywhere. The RTX 5070 leads at plenty of other stores, though Amazon and Newegg currently show the RX 9070 XT on top. AMD shipped over 1,560 GPUs total at this retailer while Nvidia stayed under 1,000. The RX 9070 XT finally dropped closer to MSRP after launch, which probably explains why people are actually buying it. Meanwhile, the regular RX 9070 keeps getting ignored with only 40 units moved, since gamers apparently prefer...
Mirage boat flexes hit six figures, real boat envy unlocked
Where Winds Meet just dropped globally on PC and PS5, and some whales have already dropped up to $68,000 on a single cosmetic boat called the Mirage Boat. The thing needs 170 special pages to unlock, and you get those by grinding through gacha draws that cost around $400 per core needed. Only one player in China has managed to get this digital flex, which basically just lets you sail around and throw parties for other players on the water. People are pointing out that you could buy an actual sports sedan or a real powerboat for that kind of money instead of a cosmetic that vanishes if the servers ever shut down. The whole situation shows how wild the psychology behind these digital status symbols has gotten, where players chase...
Corsair Void V2 Max drops, finally one dongle to rule all
Corsair dropped the Void V2 Max wireless headset at $149 but you can grab it for $120 during sales which makes the upgrade over the regular V2 model kind of worth checking out. The physical build stays identical at 303 grams with the same mesh cups but the Max packs better foam padding for improved noise blocking plus proper Dolby Atmos tuning and a Sonarworks SoundID license that actually makes audio positioning way cleaner. Battery life stays around 70 hours on the wireless dongle and over 120 hours using Bluetooth but the Max gets fast charging where 15 minutes gives you roughly six hours of playtime. The best part remains how one dongle connects across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series without any manual switching or mode buttons...
Lies of P sequel teased, director says it won’t flop
The guy behind Lies of P basically promised fans they are gonna love what comes next after scooping up the award for best expansion at the Golden Joystick Awards. Director Choi Ji-won told GamesRadar that Round8 and Neowiz are grinding away on something that will deliver maximum fun without letting anyone down. The Overture DLC dropped earlier and got built like a full sequel instead of just tacked-on content. People are hyped to see where the team takes the series next after that expansion showed they know how to level up their soulslike formula, even if it got brutal at times.
Embracer offloads Cryptic and Arc Games, Remnant stays put
Embracer Group just dumped Cryptic Studios and Arc Games to some fresh outfit called Project Golden Arc that got bankrolled by XD Inc. The whole operation gets run by the Arc Games leadership squad who basically bought their own company back. Cryptic made a bunch of MMOs like Star Trek Online and Neverwinter while Arc handled publishing duties for years. The deal brought Embracer around 30 million bucks but they kept the Remnant franchise rights for THQ Nordic since they already control the IP and Gunfire Games anyway. Fellowship Publishing got shifted over to Coffee Stain which is about to split off from Embracer and hit the Stockholm market next month. Chief Rebel keeps working on the game with 35 people pushing toward a full launch...
