Water service has returned to more than half of the households affected by contamination in Malaysia's Johor River, utility officials reported Monday morning. Ranhill SAJ announced that 244,242 consumer connections among 455,499 impacted by the pollution crisis have regained supply, while 211,257 accounts remain without service. The disruption began on Friday after sediment from a failed sand-washing facility entered the waterway.
The Pontian district has achieved complete restoration, the water operator said.
