Audiopunks drops Tape Eater with Tchad Blake
Audiopunks released Tape Eater, a dual-engine tape modulation and cassette-depth plug-in built with producer Tchad Blake. The software blends a physically modeled cassette path with a chew section that mimics a swallowed tape, adding pitch drops, magnetic drift, warble, and a lo-fi speaker character. One engine models depth, bias, tone shaping, azimuth drift, and natural compression for use on transients and melodies. The second engine generates organic instability and random dropouts through physically driven algorithms, with controls for randomness, stereo drift, and amplitude modulation. Tape Eater also offers a speaker simulator and input and output drives to push signals like hardware. It runs on macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and...

Sound Particles debuts GrainDust synth for creators
Sound Particles has added GrainDust, a software synthesizer built on technology from its SkyDust instrument. Aimed at musicians and sound designers seeking organic tones, it uses granular synthesis to turn samples into evolving textures, melodies, and immersive soundscapes. The instrument offers four layers with independent controls, ships with more than 1,200 samples, and allows user audio import. Spatial formats range from stereo to 7.1.4, plus binaural and Ambisonics. An arpeggiator and a polyphonic sequencer help craft simple lines or intricate patterns, and MPE support and onboard effects round out the toolkit. GrainDust provides controls for grain rate, density, size, continuity, detune, and sample range targeting, along with...
Pirates file CAF complaints after Lupopo exit
Orlando Pirates asked the Confederation of African Football to review their Champions League exit after a 3-3 aggregate tie with Saint Eloi Lupopo ended in a 5-4 shootout loss. The club filed three complaints that challenge the eligibility of Lupopo’s head coach and two players and seek possible reinstatement to the group stage. CAF’s disciplinary committee is set to rule before the group phase starts next month. Pirates fell 3-0 in Lubumbashi in the first leg, then won 3-0 at Orlando Stadium on Oct. 25, 2025. The grievances cite a touchline ban they say should have barred coach Guy Bukasa, a mistaken-identity red card in the second leg that they argue should have targeted Dieumerci Mukoko Amale rather than Chris Sumbu Maniania, and...
Mokwena’s MC Alger go top after gritty win
MC Alger climbed to the top of Algeria’s Ligue 1 with a 1-0 win at USM Khenchela on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, extending an unbeaten start under South African coach Rulani Mokwena. The result leaves Mouloudia with three games in hand on the nearest challengers after a strong run that has revived title hopes. At Stade Abdelkrim Kerroum, striker Zakaria Naidji scored in the 55th minute from a pass by Yacine Benzia, and captain Djameleddine Benlamri anchored a defense that shut down late pressure. MC Alger has 16 points from six matches, level with JS Saoura on 16 from nine, while MC Oran sits on 14 from nine, and Oued Akbou has 14 from nine. MB Rouisset follows with 13 from eight. The record stands at five wins and one draw. Mokwena...
Eskom shakes up board to drive power reforms
Eskom announced seven new directors effective Dec. 1, 2025, and will retain five members while six nonexecutive directors depart on Nov. 30. The change, approved by Cabinet on Oct. 16 after a term extension through Nov. 30, aims to steady governance as the utility pushes a turnaround. South Africa depends on stable power, and Eskom reports more than 200 days without load shedding and an energy availability factor near 70, yet it still faces heavy debt and reform pressure. The refreshed board blends engineering, finance, law, human resources, and environmental science. New appointees are Andrew Barendse, Dimakatso Matshoga, Kgaogelo Chiloane, Sharmila Govind, Vuyo Peach, Bajabulile Tshabalala as lead independent director, and Tshokolo...
M23 rejects Macron's plan to reopen Goma airport
The M23 Alliance rejected French President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to reopen Goma International Airport for daytime humanitarian flights, saying any access should be handled in the Doha peace talks. The airport has been shut since late January 2025 after the group seized it, and M23 also holds Bukavu airport and the cities of Goma and Bukavu. Macron outlined the proposal at a Great Lakes Conference in Paris and said it would respect Congolese sovereignty and set up aid corridors. M23 spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka called the idea ill-timed and out of touch, accused Kinshasa of breaking ceasefire pledges, and said the state has relied on force that worsened civilian suffering. He cited drone strikes on populated areas and the destruction...
Six from one family dead in Bukwo landslides
At least nine people died after landslides hit Bukwo and Kween districts in eastern Uganda on Wednesday following heavy overnight rain across the Sebei sub-region. LC5 councilor David Kapcheronge reported four families were affected, with six members of one family dead and several others injured. Sipi Region police spokesperson Fredmark Chesang said officers and residents recovered the bodies and took them to Bukwo Hospital mortuary for a postmortem. Search operations continued amid fears that more people were trapped. Local leaders in...
Man held for impersonating a student in the UNEB exam
Police in Mubende District arrested Leonard Elungat, 36, on suspicion of impersonation in the Uganda National Examinations Board exams, authorities said. The former Mubende Army Senior Secondary School student was found on Tuesday sitting the UCE Agriculture Paper One with another candidate’s index number. Officials said he posed as Justus Atuhaire, a registered student at the school who had not signed up for Agriculture and was absent. Investigators said Elungat had already written seven papers under Atuhaire’s name before detection. The head teacher intercepted him and referred him to the deputy head teacher for questioning, but he fled and was picked up on Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Mubende town. He is held at Mubende Central Police...
