Galaxy S25 Ultra embarrasses iPhone 17 Pro Max
A recent speed test revealed Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra outperformed Apple's iPhone 17 Pro Max despite running on the older Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. The YouTube channel PhoneBuff documented the results after previously conducting durability tests between the two flagship devices. The Galaxy S25 Ultra maintained a three-app advantage during the competition and completed video export tasks faster than its competitor. Software optimization appears to have given Samsung's device an edge, as the S25 Ultra finished the first lap in 2 minutes and 2 seconds, compared to the iPhone's 2 minutes and 16 seconds. Apple's device struggled with iOS 26, which analysts suggest requires significant refinement. The second lap times showed the...
Just Cause maker Avalanche axes Liverpool studio
Avalanche Studios announced workforce reductions across its offices in Malmö, Stockholm, and Liverpool on Tuesday. The company will shut down its Liverpool location entirely and dismiss all employees at that site. The developer attributed the decision to ongoing business pressures within the gaming industry. The cuts follow Microsoft's cancellation of Contraband in July, during layoffs that affected more than 9,000 workers across the company. Avalanche had been developing the Xbox-exclusive title since 2021 before the project ended. The studio operates with approximately 600 developers and has not disclosed specific numbers affected by the restructuring.
Apple M4 Pro buries Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme
Apple's M4 Pro chipset defeated Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme in graphics performance tests conducted by ComputerBase. The M4 Pro achieved scores up to 45.7 percent higher in 3DMark Steel Nomad Light Unlimited, and it outperformed the Snapdragon chip by 37.45 percent in 3DMark Solar Bar Unlimited. Qualcomm manufactured its silicon using TSMC's advanced 3-nanometer N3P architecture, yet the chip failed to match Apple's performance despite the newer production process. The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme secured victories in most compute benchmarks against the M4 Pro. Qualcomm's processor scored 6.53 percent faster in Geekbench 6.3 single-core testing, and it posted 5.07 percent better results in multi-core workloads. The M4 Pro...

NVIDIA ditches ray tracing for Battlefield 6 deal
NVIDIA launched its GeForce Game Ready driver version 581.42 on Tuesday to optimize performance for EA's Battlefield 6, which releases on Oct. 10. The driver supports DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, Frame Generation, Super Resolution, DLAA, and Reflex technologies, but the game excludes ray tracing effects as developers prioritized performance improvements. EA credited optimization work on Xbox Series S for enhancing performance across all platforms. The driver update also optimizes FBC: Firebreak's Breakpoint Update, which was released on Monday with support for path tracing. X4: Foundations received DLSS 4 compatibility earlier in September through its 8.00 Diplomacy update, and Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition launches on...
