Avalanche Studios announced workforce reductions across its offices in Malmö, Stockholm, and Liverpool on Tuesday. The company will shut down its Liverpool location entirely and dismiss all employees at that site. The developer attributed the decision to ongoing business pressures within the gaming industry.
The cuts follow Microsoft's cancellation of Contraband in July, during layoffs that affected more than 9,000 workers across the company. Avalanche had been developing the Xbox-exclusive title since 2021 before the project ended. The studio operates with approximately 600 developers and has not disclosed specific numbers affected by the restructuring.
