Zimbabwe President Mnangagwa storms parliament Q and A, MPs squirm
President Mnangagwa shocked lawmakers when he walked into Parliament without warning during Wednesday's question time. The head of state usually only shows up for big formal events like the State of the Nation Address. Nobody expected him to drop by for regular parliamentary business. He later posted on social media that he found the debates insightful and good for democracy. The surprise appearance got people talking about why he came. Speaker Jacob Mudenda told confused MPs that the President had every right to attend. The Constitution makes the President part of the legislature because he signs bills into law. Mudenda revealed that Mnangagwa also wanted to check out the Parliament building for future upgrades. The Speaker welcomed...
Zimbabwe RBZ flaunts ZiG gold hoard as reserves soar past 700m
Zimbabwe banks hit the jackpot with foreign money reserves climbing to a massive 731 million dollars by June 2025. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe announced the huge jump from 639 million dollars in May and just 276 million dollars back in April last year. Government officials say the cash pile includes gold, foreign currency, and bank balances that back up their local ZiG currency. The foreign reserves beat the ZiG reserve money by more than three times. Bank bosses launched the ZiG currency in April 2024 to replace the old Zimbabwe dollar that lost most of its value. People started using ZiG money more often with transactions hitting 43 percent in May before dropping slightly to 35 percent in June. The central bank keeps printing more...

Zimbabwe jumped up the rankings to become Southern Africa's fifth biggest economy after officials discovered billions of dollars worth of missing business activity. The country's economy got a massive boost from $35.2 billion to $44.4 billion when statisticians counted informal businesses and new companies that started after 2019. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said huge chunks of the economy had been growing quietly without anyone keeping proper records. The government found plenty of unreported business dealings that were flying under the radar for years. Zimbabwe still trails behind South Africa, Angola, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo in regional economic size. Officials believe they missed even more economic activity...

She traveled from Gokwe all the way to a remote fishing village near the Zambia border. Her husband Jonathan works at the dangerous location where wild animals roam freely. The couple heard about a special government registration drive happening in the area. Zimbabwe officials teamed up with Unicef and Sweden to bring birth certificates to hard-to-reach communities. Bangladesh women's football coach Peter Butler faces criticism over his decision to use senior team captain Afeida Khandaker in the under-20 championship. Critics argue that including established players undermines the development purpose of youth tournaments. Butler fired back by saying Khandaker meets age requirements and wanted to participate herself. The coach stressed that development matters more than winning trophies at youth level. He pointed out that 55 percent of his senior national team consists of under-20 players. Butler defended his selection choices by explaining that tournament rules prevent him from promoting talented under-17 players to under-20 level. The experienced coach said he would love to include younger stars...
