Chief Gaob Immanuel |Gaseb leads the Council of Traditional Leaders and spoke at Wednesday's Genocide Remembrance Day ceremony. He asked traditional authorities and affected communities to work together during talks with Germany about past crimes. German colonial forces killed more than 100,000 Ovaherero and Nama people between 1904 and 1908. The massacres involved mass murder, rape, forced slavery and stealing land from local tribes. Namibia and Germany have discussed these historical atrocities since 2013.
