Musona Back in Action for Zimbabwe Warriors
Zimbabwe's former national soccer team captain, Willard Katsande, is excited about Knowledge Musona's return to play for the Warriors. Musona will lead the team as they try to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Tomorrow, Zimbabwe will take on Benin in Durban, South Africa. Five days later, they'll head to Nigeria to face the Super Eagles. It'll be Musona's first official game back after Coach Michael Nees talked him into reconsidering his retirement from international soccer. Katsande, who was a tough midfielder during his playing days, thinks bringing Musona back was the right move. He believes Zimbabweans should be pumped to see the "Smiling Assassin" on the field again. Musona is already a legend for the Warriors. He's worn the...
Mbare Art and Digital Lab Change the Game
Mbare is getting a major boost, and it's all thanks to the Mbare Renewal Projects. These guys are using art and computers to help kids avoid drugs. And guess what? The government's taking notice. Minister Tatenda Mavetera stopped by to check out their work. She was totally into it. The project is turning Block 8 of Matapi into a huge, colorful mural. It's not just making the place look nicer; it's also a way to get young people pumped about something positive. Over a hundred families live in this spot. The murals are all about hope and strength. They want to inspire kids to aim for a better future. Last week, they opened a free computer lab. The goal is to help local kids learn digital skills. Minister Mavetera was hyped during the...
Sneaky Buyers Leave Farmers Short on Cash
Every year, when harvest time rolls around, a shady side hustle kicks into high gear in farming towns across the country. Crafty wheelers and dealers head out to the boonies armed with a bag of dirty tricks to rip off hardworking farmers. They leave the poor folks with peanuts for their crops or sometimes nothing at all. I'm going to dive deep into what makes these sketchy buyers tick, how they're messing with farmers, and what we can do to protect the backbone of our rural economy. These con artists always swoop in when farmers are hurting the most, right before the market season, when cash is tight. Lately, with the economy being a hot mess, these shady characters have been preying on farmers even more. They flash a little quick...
Govt Tackles Food and Gender Issues in New Framework
The government is working hard to devise a clever plan that will tackle two big issues simultaneously: people not having enough food and women not being treated equally. The plan aims to make it easier for people dealing with violence at home to get the help they need without any roadblocks. It also encourages victims to speak up and get support. Mrs. Deborah Chinyanga, the deputy director of programs and coordination at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, spilled the beans about this during a big meeting in Harare on Monday. She said her ministry's job is to stop gender-based violence before it happens by addressing its root causes, both at home and in the community. Chinyanga talked...
Tragic crash on Harare Bulawayo Road leaves 7 dead
Seven people lost their lives early this morning, and eight more got hurt when a passenger van crashed into a big rig on the highway from Harare to Bulawayo. It happened right by the Dzivarasekwa exit. After the van and the semi collided, the van also smashed into a Nissan UD truck. The cops said the van driver didn't yield at a traffic light near the Thuli Service Station, which caused the wreck. The national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed it went down and said they'll give out more information soon. The crash site, known by locals as Pamagetsi, has turned into a real danger zone. Deadly accidents keep happening there all the time. It's a major problem spot on that stretch of road. The community is shaken...
Zimplats Resumes SO2 Plant Build
Zimplats, a major producer of platinum group metals (PGM), just announced that phase two of its sulfur dioxide (SO2) abatement plant will kick back into construction mode in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026. They plan to wrap it up by June 2028. This project is all about beefing up its processing capacity. In their report for the second half of 2024, Zimplats said the SO2 abatement plant and smelter expansion projects were technically done. They've spent a cool US$444 million on these two projects so far. The sulfur dioxide plant is crucial for snagging and processing SO2 emissions, which come from smelting and roasting sulfide ores. The plant stops air pollution and could even turn the SO2 into useful stuff like sulphuric...
Bravura Cheers Mnangagwa as It Sets Up Two Mines
A Nigerian company called Bravura Group is psyched about investing in Zimbabwe. They're loving President Mnangagwa's moves to make the country more business-friendly. Thanks to those policy changes, Bravura's been able to set up two mining operations there. They're working on a lithium mine in Kamativi and a platinum mine in Selous. Bravura is a big player, operating in 16 African countries. But they're all about keeping things local in Zimbabwe. A whopping 98% of their workforce there is homegrown talent. It's part of their mission to ensure communities benefit from the resources in their own backyard. Mining isn't Bravura's only gig, though. They're into oil, gas, and agriculture, too. You can find them in places like Nigeria...
Old Mutual Posts Best Profit Since 2019
Old Mutual Group just had its best year since 2019. More people in South Africa wanted its short-term insurance and wealth management products, which helped increase profits. The company is based in Johannesburg. Its adjusted headline earnings jumped 14% to hit R6.69 billion, or about US$370 million. This beat what six analysts predicted in a Bloomberg survey. They thought it would be R6.6 billion. Old Mutual and competitors like Sanlam are doing well because South Africa's economy is picking up a bit. The government-run power company is working better. The government's also focusing on building more roads and stuff, which is giving the economy a boost—it's the biggest one in Africa. Consumers are spending more money because of all...
Zimbabwe 45 Celebrations Head to Gokwe Grounds
Zimbabwe's turning 45 this year, and they're throwing a massive party to celebrate! But get this - instead of having the shindig in the capital city like usual, they're moving it to the sticks. Yep, the big birthday bash is going down at the Mutora Grounds in Nembudziya, way out in Gokwe North District. It's a big change from the regular Harare venues. President Mnangagwa's all about including everyone and spreading love, so this move is right up his alley. His whole deal is "leaving no one and no place behind." Last year, Manicaland Province kicked off the trend by hosting a party outside a city. Now, it's Midlands' turn to take the reins. Mutora Grounds, deep in the heart of rural Gokwe, is gonna be the place to be on this big day...
