Govt Splurges on Lawyer Fees Over Health Act Fight
Lawyers cost the government Sh142 million after someone sued to stop the Social Health Insurance Act of 2023. The Social Health Authority was supposed to improve healthcare funding and give everyone medical services. Instead, Aura Joseph Enock filed a lawsuit against it. Medical Services PS Harry Kimtai told lawmakers last week that his ministry hired top lawyers to fight this case hard. The ministry paid Sh142.2 million in legal fees and wants lawmakers to approve this money in the budget update that Parliament currently reviews. We learned recently that private individuals control the expensive system running social health insurance - not the government. The government paid Sh104 billion to buy this system. Kenya calls on Vietnam to delay death sentence
Kenya's Foreign Affairs official Korir Sing'oei called Vietnam's Deputy Minister on Sunday about Margaret Nduta. Vietnam might execute this Kenyan citizen soon. The Vietnam official, Nguyen Minh Hang, told him they're looking at Kenya's request right now. Kenya asked Vietnam earlier to pause the execution. This would give both countries time to work through the issue together. Sing'oei shared that many Kenyans feel worried about what might happen to Nduta. He thanked the Vietnam Deputy Minister for considering their petition seriously. Kenya's office in Bangkok continues to track the situation closely. This marks the first time Kenya's government has publicly responded after many people asked them to step in. Sing'oei wrote online...
Anglican Church Says No To Politicians In Service
Jackson Ole Sapit, the Anglican Archbishop of Kenya, just stopped politicians from talking to church members during services nationwide. He stated they can still talk to people after church ends, but they must do it outside. The Archbishop mentioned that politicians will simply stand and wave when their names come up during services. At St Stephen's Cathedral on Sunday, he also declared churches will no longer announce how much money people give during offerings. The Archbishop made his position clear: "We will recognize visitors, but starting today, no political leader can make speeches inside any Anglican church building. If they want to address church members, they must do it outside our holy space - not just today but across all...
Kenya Dutch visit gets real about human rights
Amnesty International Kenya asks the government to prioritize human rights when talking with the Netherlands. The Dutch king and queen plan to visit Kenya from March 18 to March 20, 2025, with the aim of strengthening their relationship. Amnesty director Irungu Houghton believes the visit creates a perfect chance to talk about human rights problems. He points out that Dutch leaders arrived after violent attacks on peaceful protests left many Kenyans dead or hurt. Police used extreme force against protesters during the last nine months, killing more than 60 people. Secret agents grabbed over 80 activists from the streets, with young Kenyans making up most victims. These kidnappings and acts of torture keep happening without anyone...
KNUT Leaders Chat With Gov on Education Future
KNUT leaders from 21 branches across Nyanza met with Interior PS Raymond Omollo last Sunday in Kisumu. They discussed education issues, governance, and how to develop better leadership. The gathering allowed teachers and government officials to collaborate on ways to improve schools throughout Kenya. Omollo told the teachers they could become more than just union members. He pushed them to learn about running organizations, managing people, and serving the public. Teachers shape our future beyond just classrooms—they often become important leaders themselves, he explained. Many teachers later serve as lawmakers, senators, governors, and other big decision-makers. The group discussed what President Ruto has done for schools, including...

Trump cuts back VOA and global news operations
President Trump just issued a new order cutting back Voice of America. The order also hits VOA's parent group, the US Agency for Global Media, which runs Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Asia. These stations were first created to fight communist messages. Trump wants these agencies to shrink to the bare minimum required by law. Mike Abramowitz runs VOA and says he and almost all 1,300 workers have been sent home with pay. He warns this hurts VOA's key job at a time when countries like Iran, China, and Russia spend huge money to spread false stories about America. The Trump team hasn't said why they did this or if these stations will close forever. CBS News learned about this through an email from Crystal Thomas, who handles human...
