The government changed the prices for miraa, making them much higher than before. A special plant called miraa grows on trees in Kenya, and many people around the world like to chew its leaves.
The person in charge of farming, Mr. Kagwe, told everyone that one kilogram of the best miraa would cost 1,300 shillings instead of 700 shillings. The second-best type will cost 700 shillings, and another kind called Alele will cost 1,000 shillings. These new prices started right away.
A group of people came together to decide these prices. They looked at how much Miraa farmers grow, how much it costs to grow, and how many people want to buy it. They met and talked about what would be fair for everyone.
