President Adama Barrow wants a new constitution for The Gambia. He hopes the National Assembly will let the people vote on it.
The country started writing a new constitution in 2018, but there were problems along the way. In 2020, a draft was rejected because people didn't like the president's term limits.
The new version tries to fix those issues. It must first pass the National Assembly before being put to a public vote.
"We hope the revised Draft Constitution will go to the people," Mr. Barrow said in his New Year's speech.
He said politics should bring Gambians together. It should not divide them by ethnicity or party.
