Gambian Faith - Pious Looks Hide Cruel Acts

Gambians seem very religious from the outside. Young people pray at mosques when they hear the call to prayer. At work, people stop what they're doing to pray. On Fridays, everyone dresses nicely to go to the mosque. People say prayers for each other all the time.

Many Gambians dress in religious clothes. Some men wear short robes and hats and have beards. Women often wear hijabs that cover their whole bodies. You see this at stores, banks, and other places. Sadly, dressing religious doesn't always mean acting religious.

Islam is about more than just looks. It's a way of life built on good qualities like kindness and forgiveness. But many Gambians who look religious don't act that way.

The traffic shows this problem. People drive selfishly and rudely, wanting to prove how tough they are. This causes traffic jams and accidents. Right after praying, people get mean on the roads. They forget their religion's teachings.

Gambians can be cruel to each other. Women in hijabs are rude to customers at banks. People who just prayed treat others badly at work. They lie and hurt others. Outside, they look very religious. Inside, they aren't following their faith.

Online, people who look religious say mean things. Sadly, many Gambians aren't good Muslims in their actions. They do the opposite of what Islam teaches.

Gambians should think about this. Do their religious looks match their religious actions? Each time they're cruel, they move further from the peace they want. Praying and dressing religiously aren't enough. True faith means being kind to others.
