2 NCA members allegedly abducted and assaulted in Harare

Two National Constitution Assembly members were allegedly abducted, tortured, and dumped in Highlands, Harare, after attending a meeting on Thursday. Their abduction follows tensions over the Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.

Abduction incident
  • Naboth Sirora and Innocent Taruona were reportedly abducted after leaving the NCA offices.
  • They were assaulted, blindfolded, and dumped in Highlands without clothes.
  • NCA leader Lovemore Madhuku confirmed the incident and condemned the attack.
Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3
  • The amendment has sparked public debate, with critics claiming it extends Mnangagwa's tenure illegally.
  • Madhuku’s group had been discussing the bill when the abduction occurred.
Unresolved investigation
  • Efforts to get a police comment from Commissioner Paul Nyathi were unsuccessful.
  • Last week, another activist, linked to a civic group opposing the amendment, was also abducted and tortured.
