73-year-old Sikh grandma deported from the US to India

Immigration officials deported a 73-year-old grandmother to India after she lived in America for more than thirty years. Harjit Kaur arrived in California during 1991 with her two sons to escape Punjab's political violence. Authorities arrested her on September 8 when she reported for her regular immigration check-in. Officials sent Kaur to Georgia before completing her deportation on September 22.

Kaur's lawyer claims detention officers treated her poorly during the two-week period. The elderly woman slept on floors without beds despite having knee replacements. Guards provided only ice for her medications and refused appropriate food options. Her arrest occurred under the Trump administration's expanded immigration enforcement targeting undocumented residents.
