ACC busts RA staff in 2M weighbridge scam

Anti-corruption officials seized assets worth N$2 million in a probe of shady deals between a Roads Authority worker and a vendor. They took a weighbridge from Etango Petroleum at Walvis Bay because it lacked proper approval. Someone had wrongly approved a N$2.3 million bill for the weighbridge, saying it arrived when it never did. The same company fixed the old weighbridge for N$264,960 and put it at Walvis Bay back in 2021.

When the new weighbridge came in 2022, someone took the old one from the Roads Authority land, lying about taking it to Windhoek. They secretly moved it to Etango Petroleum without any permission from the Roads Authority. The company rents this weighbridge to Etango today. ACC spokesperson Josefina Nghituwamata said they might charge people with fraud, theft, and money laundering. The ACC wants to stop corruption and asks all groups to stay honest about their business. No one has been arrested, but the case remains open.
