Accra court remands Edem Abotsi over alleged gold heist

A fake gold-task-force heist just blew up in Accra after one of the alleged robbers got physically grabbed by the very person he tried to rip off.

  • Accomplices allegedly swiped one kilogram of gold.
  • A gold-testing machine also vanished during the incident.

How the sting fell apart

  • Buyers shelled out GH¢900,000 before everything unraveled.
  • Fake task-force shirts reading Ghana Goldbod were worn.
  • Razak bolted with the cash in a Toyota Corolla.
Complainant fought back hard
  • Joel John Rawlings physically wrestled Abotsi into custody.
  • His suspicion kicked in when he requested ID cards.
  • Boateng allegedly bailed from the moving car with gold.
  • Rawlings handed Abotsi over to CID Headquarters personally.
Six suspects are still on the run
  • Razak, Boakye, Boateng, and Arko remain at large.
  • Oduro Justine is also being hunted by the police.
  • Alhaji Abu faces a separate abetment-of-crime warrant.

Bail bid shut down by prosecution
  • Abotsi's lawyer, Andrew Vortia, pushed for bail release.

  • Prosecutors countered that Abotsi could help nab accomplices.
  • Mrs. Basilia Adjei-Tawiah set the return for March 5, 2026.
