Act of the Scottish Parliament

Laws passed by the Scottish Parliament need to fall within its legal powers. If members pass a law outside those powers, courts can cancel it. The Scotland Act 1998 sets out these rules, especially in Section 29. Section 57(2) also applies to related rules made after a law is passed. Any law or rule that goes beyond what the Scottish Parliament can do may not stand if challenged.
