Action Aid gives D1.3m to 60 farmers in Upper Nuimi

Action Aid International gave money to farmers across Upper Nuimi. The organization handed out over one million dalasis to help people grow crops. Sixty small farmers received cash support for the 2025 growing season. The money helps them buy groundnut seeds and farming equipment. Action Aid also gave funds for fishing tools to support local fishermen.

Twenty-one groundnut farmers each took home 35,000 dalasis from the program. Three people who fish received 25,000 dalasis to buy better gear. Fifteen other farmers got 35,000 dalasis to purchase seeders and donkeys. The farmers come from villages around Albreda, Jimbana, and Kerr Cherno areas. Officials held the ceremony at the Juffureh office last Saturday.

Chief Momodou Chatty Cham spoke about the help from Action Aid. He said the support helps government efforts to fight hunger and poverty. The chief explained that farmers would receive clean groundnut seeds and farm tools. District leaders plan to watch how farmers spend their money. Local authorities want to make sure the funds help boost food production.

Fafa Cham from Action Aid talked about helping communities during tough times. The agency works to make farmers stronger against disasters and problems. Action Aid wants local councils to work better with taxpayers. The organization fights for rich countries to cancel Gambian debt. Officials hope farmers will use the support to grow more food and improve their lives.
