ActionAid Rallies Gambian Youth for Civic Engagement

ActionAid Gambia just wrapped up a powerful three-day training for reporters and online stars. They learned how to speak up for young people who need more say in local government. The United Nations gave money for this project called "Empowering Marginalised Young People." Everything happened at Jarra Soma starting March 25. The main goal? Help young voices be heard where decisions happen.

Amadou Jallow from ActionAid told everyone that young people matter right here, right today. He said they must participate in important talks about what happens next in their country. When young citizens stay out of big choices, real progress can't happen. The whole point of ActionAid's work is to bring everyone to the table, especially those left out before.

The local council leader, Landing Sanneh, agreed. His team wants to work hand-in-hand with ActionAid to boost youth involvement everywhere. He worries about young people moving away from rural areas. Unless communities invest in youth programs, this problem will keep growing worse. Their talents and energy belong in every part of Gambian life.

Fatou Jeng shared some big news about money. Since 2017, The Gambia has received $40 million to help fill gaps in what people know and can do. She believes journalists play a huge role in sharing helpful information with young citizens. The training taught everyone better ways to report on youth issues and make sure young voices appear in news stories across the country.

The future looks bright when different groups work together. ActionAid, community organizations, and local governments have joined forces to create better chances for young leaders. They want young Gambians to drive positive change throughout their nation. Beyond just talking, this project aims to build lasting peace and welcome everyone's ideas. When young people lead, entire communities become stronger and more ready for whatever comes next.
