Fire destroyed the rural home of CCC supporter Godfrey Karembera Monday night. The political activist was away when attackers hit his house in Guruve South. His teenage son Laxmore suffered serious injuries after saving two younger siblings from the flames. Neighbors heard explosions around midnight that sounded like petrol bombs. The boy saw fire spreading before he woke up family members.
The children ran toward nearby fields when someone threw another explosive their way. Laxmore cut his neck and legs during their escape. He needed emergency medical help right away. Several people spotted two Toyota trucks driving around the property before everything happened. Karembera told police he believes someone planned this attack against him.
Police took almost ten hours to arrive at the scene. The injured teen faced problems getting medical care at Shinje Clinic. Staff at Guruve District Hospital also gave poor treatment, according to the family. Karembera found private healthcare for his injured son instead. He said the treatment shows problems with democracy when children suffer because of their parents' political views.
