Afenyo-Markin Urges NPP to Recommit to Founding Values at Patriotic Institute Launch

Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin asked New Patriotic Party members to put party beliefs ahead of personal goals. The opposition leader spoke Wednesday at a new training center launch in Ghana's capital. He serves as the minority leader and represents Effutu district. The politician wants his party to focus on core values instead of individual success. He believes the Patriotic Institute will help members learn proper leadership skills.

Afenyo-Markin told stories about his family's struggles during the 1980s and 1990s. His mother lost her teaching job because she refused to join a government women's group. Political beliefs cost his stepfather work opportunities after elections. The family faced money problems and separation because of their party loyalty. These experiences taught him that party service means making sacrifices for the greater good.

The new institute will teach party members about government work and political ideas. Classes will cover leadership skills and communication methods. The center aims to prepare future leaders with strong knowledge of party principles. Afenyo-Markin thinks too many elected officials lack understanding of what their party represents. He wants the institute to change this problem through better education.

The minority leader criticized young party members for attacking senior officials online. He asked them to discuss ideas respectfully instead of using social media to hurt party elders. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia attended the ceremony along with other top party officials. Afenyo-Markin expressed confidence that his party can recover from recent election losses through better planning and focus.
