Afghan cops torch labs as heroin lords get smoked

Afghan authorities destroyed two drug laboratories in western Farah province on Monday, and they burned more than 1,900 kilograms of heroin production materials. Police raided sites in Bakwa and Parchaman districts after receiving intelligence from Afghanistan's Ministry of Interior Affairs. Officers arrested 11 suspects across six provinces on trafficking charges, and they transferred them to judicial authorities. Medical teams treated 44 recovering addicts in Daykundi province.

Police discovered two facilities in Uruzgan province on Sept. 24. They burned more than three tonnes of illegal substances. Authorities found another laboratory in Badakhshan province on Sept. 16, and they arrested five individuals with 170 kilograms of processed opium. The Afghan government has intensified nationwide anti-narcotics operations.
