Afya Mkopo loans roll out, clinics cash in

Medical Credit Fund dropped their Afya Mkopo lending system in Dar es Salaam to help health businesses grab financing between 200,000 and 100 million shillings through a Vodacom partnership. Dr Heri Marwa said over 100 pharmacy owners, hospitals, and clinics from different regions have already tapped these loans to stock up on equipment and medicines, which should help cut down child and maternal deaths by 2030.

Thadei Mlacha from Nakiete Pharmacy said the whole setup works great when cash gets tight for restocking medicines, and Hellen Komba from Vodacom noted that healthcare entrepreneurs are getting affordable access to capital. The loan interest rates run lower than usual for people registered with Lipa kwa M-Pesa.
