Airtel Africa Highlights Digital Growth and Sustainability in 2025 Report

Airtel Africa released its annual sustainability report for 2025. The telecommunications company serves customers across 14 African nations. Chief executive Sunil Taldar highlighted major progress connecting schools and expanding mobile money services. The company connected 2,176 schools to free internet access during the past year. Nearly 45 million people use Airtel Money services across the continent.

The company expanded its network coverage to reach 81 percent of people across all markets. Workers built 36,159 mobile towers for faster internet speeds. More than 15,300 towers serve rural communities where connectivity was limited before. Airtel spent 670 million dollars upgrading equipment and expanding service areas. The investment helped 73 million customers access mobile internet services.

Women make up 44 percent of Airtel Money users across Africa. The company added 1.7 million sales agents to help customers access mobile banking. Female employees represent 29 percent of workers at Airtel Africa. Mobile money services help people save and transfer funds without traditional banks. These digital financial tools support economic growth across underserved communities.

Environmental efforts focused on reducing diesel fuel use and waste production. Engineers converted 500 remote cell towers from diesel generators to electrical grid power. The company recycled 93 percent of all waste materials from operations. Renewable energy projects reduce harmful emissions from telecommunications equipment. Airtel follows international standards for measuring environmental and social impacts.
