Akpabio launches Nigeria's new anti-terror master plan

Senate President Godswill Akpabio introduced Nigeria's Counter Terrorism Strategic Plan 2025-2030 at a ceremony in Abuja, asserting that citizens must be freed from violence and insecurity. The framework emerged from collaboration among government agencies, security services, academics, community organizations, and foreign allies through the National Counter Terrorism Centre under the National Security Adviser's office.

Akpabio argued that lasting stability requires sustained investment in personnel development, advanced systems, professional training, and cooperative arrangements rather than reactive emergency responses. The 10th National Assembly has approved significant legislation covering defense operations, law enforcement coordination, intelligence integration, digital security, and anti-terrorism measures while improving conditions for security personnel.

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu's representative, Major General Adamu Laka, stated the initiative seeks to position the National Counter Terrorism Centre as West Africa and the Sahel's premier institution for combating militant threats and extremist violence through comprehensive governmental and societal engagement.
