Alexander Zverev crashes out of Shanghai Masters

Second-seeded Alexander Zverev exited the Shanghai Masters on Monday after losing to Arthur Rinderknech in three sets. The German won the opening set 6-4 but faltered in the final two, falling 6-3 and 6-2 to the Frenchman. Reports indicated Zverev was managing an injury before the match, raising questions about his recent form.

The defeat continues a difficult stretch for Zverev, who has not reached a tournament final since losing to Taylor Fritz at the BOSS Open. His last title came at the BMW Open in April against Ben Shelton. Before facing Rinderknech, Zverev advanced to the round of 32 with a straight-set victory over Valentin Royer, winning 6-4 and 6-4.

The German previously commented on court conditions at major tournaments, suggesting directors favor top-ranked players. World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz denied having control over court conditions. Defending champion Jannik Sinner withdrew from the tournament on Sunday because of cramps.
