AMD Fills Shelves with RX 9070 Cards for a Big Market Win

AMD started selling their Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards Thursday at 3 p.m. Many stores report having thousands of these cards ready for buyers. Compare this to what happened with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 series launch - stores had less than a hundred RTX 5070 cards and barely five RTX 5090 units available. One store in the UK showed off its massive supply by stacking over 1,000 Sapphire RX 9070 XT Pulse cards into a cube shape for display. The huge difference in available units shows AMD took a totally different approach than Nvidia, allowing AMD to reach more customers right from day one.

The large supply of Radeon RX 9070 cards happened because AMD pushed back the release date on purpose. These cards should have hit shelves in late January, but AMD delayed everything to improve their software and perfect their FSR4 technology. This delay turned out great for inventory - shipments started arriving in mid-January and kept coming steadily, building up a big stockpile before the official launch date. About two-thirds of all cards are the higher-end RX 9070 XT models, with the rest being regular RX 9070 cards that run at lower speeds and have fewer cores enabled. Stores haven't set final prices yet, but the abundant supply suggests prices won't jump sky-high like Nvidia's products did - unless manufacturers add fancy cooling systems or other premium features.

The way AMD handled this launch might change how people shop for graphics cards. With tons of Radeon RX 9070 series cards available everywhere, tech enthusiasts who planned to buy Nvidia products might switch teams. The contrast between easily finding AMD cards versus struggling to locate Nvidia cards makes a strong statement about which company prepared better for consumer demand. Smart shoppers notice these differences and often reward companies that ensure product availability during major releases.

Having plenty of stock affects the entire market positively. Gamers and creators can actually buy the cards they want without fighting against bots or scalpers. The delay strategy AMD used proved extremely effective - rather than rushing to market with limited quantities, they prioritized having enough cards ready for everyone interested. The extra time spent optimizing software also means buyers receive a more polished product experience from day one. About two-thirds of the available inventory consists of the more powerful XT variant, giving customers access to better performance options immediately.
