They say age means nothing. Michael Tumusiime proved this at Entebbe Golf Club when he beat much younger players. At 50 years old, he scored 73 on the par-71 course. He defeated Elton Thembo, Samuel Bazaale, and Uganda Open champion Joseph Reagan Akena to win the second Pearl of Africa Golf Series. Thembo played poorly during the final day of the three-day event.
The match changed during holes 13 through 16. Tumusiime gained five strokes as Thembo fell apart. Pressure clearly affected the younger player. Thembo made bad choices on the back nine holes that cost him the win. After his victory, Tumusiime spoke humbly about his success.
He called first-place wins special treats. He felt happy to finally achieve this win and hopes many more victories will come his way. Tumusiime works harder than most amateur golfers in Uganda.
