Nigeria's ladies golf group wants government help for their big tournament coming to Abuja. The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria asked officials during a press meeting in Minna. Over 250 female golfers came together for the 2025 Northern Zone Golf Championship. President Evelyn Oyome spoke to reporters about the All Africa Golf Challenge Trophy happening this November. She wants the National Sports Commission to provide money and support for the event.
Oyome also asked leaders to make golf a national sport again. She pointed out that golf will not be part of the next Olympic Games. The association president believes government backing would help the tournament succeed. Nigeria needs more recognition for women's golf competitions across Africa.
The championship runs from Wednesday through Saturday with 54 holes of play. First Vice President Lami Onayi Ahmed explained that 250 players will compete in the tournament. The event meets World Amateur Golf Ranking standards for female amateur players with men joining as guests.
