American Gambits whiff on Arjun, cling to prodigy

American Gambits leadership outlined their team-building strategy following the Global Chess League Season 3 draft held in Mumbai. Coach GM Srinath Narayanan and co-owner Prachura PP retained Icon player Hikaru Nakamura and top women's competitor Bibisara Assaubayeva while adding Richard Rapport, Vladislav Artemiev, Teodora Injac and Volodar Murzin. The franchise lost a bidding contest against Alaskan Knights for World No. 4 Arjun Erigaisi after exceeding their 250-point spending limit.

The team highlighted Murzin as their primary advantage for the upcoming season. The reigning World Rapid Chess Champion performs consistently at the 2650 level despite his youth. Management identified three objectives for the campaign: securing the championship trophy, maintaining roster continuity through strong performances, and building brand recognition with support from celebrity co-owner Ravichandran Ashwin.
